1 dead, 2 injured in Cable, Wis. house explosion

A woman was killed in a house explosion in Cable, Wis. Her husband remains hospitalized.

CABLE, Wis. - A woman is dead and her husband is hospitalized after their home exploded in the township of Cable, Wisconsin.

The Bayfield County Sheriff's Office said they received a 911 call from a neighbor around 6 p.m. Wednesday, reporting the home next door exploded with the homeowners inside.

When crews arrived on scene, they found the home completely blown apart and scattered in a large area, with half of it engulfed in flames.

The homeowner, Raymond Reidl, was able to escape the home, after the explosion thanks to the help of a next door neighbor but his wife, Joyce, was trapped underneath the rubble as fire continued to spread.

Crews were able to pull Joyce from the debris but she later died due to her injuries.

Raymond was airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center for severe burns and other injuries. He's currently listed in critical condition.

A firefighter also suffered minor burns in the incident trying to rescue one of the victims, according to KBJR. He returned back to work later that evening.

At this point, there is no word on the cause of the explosion or the full extent of the damages.
