3 seriously injured in head-on crash on 94

All people involved in the crash suffered life-threatening injuries and the State Patrol says alcohol may be involved

MINNEAPOLIS - Three people suffered serious injuries after a head-on crash early Monday morning on 94 at Dowling, according to authorities.

The crash happened around 2 a.m. after a Kia Optima was heading north in the southbound lanes of 94 near Dowling Avenue. The Kia then hit an Infinity G35 head-on, that was traveling southbound, in the left lane.

According to a report from the Minnesota State Patrol, snow and ice contributed to the crash but alcohol was also involved.

The 25-year-old female driver of the Kia and her 20-year-old passenger suffered life-threatening injuries and were transported to North Memorial Hospital, via ambulance. The State Patrol reports both the driver and the passenger were not wearing seat belts. The report also states alcohol was detected on the driver.

The 26-year-old male driver of the Infinity also suffered life-threatening injuries. He has been identified as Andrew Ray Witthuhn of Coon Rapids, a member of the Minnesota National Guard 34th Military Police Company. A CaringBridge site has been set up for Witthuhn as well as a GoFundMe campaign.

All three are listed under critical condition at North Memorial Hospital.

The crash briefly closed 94 while crews worked to clear the scene.

Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
