Suspect ID'd in beating, robbery of senior

Police spokesman Steve Linders says the teenage suspect was identified after a tip left on the department's Facebook page. At this time the young man is not yet in custody.

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Authorities have identified a suspect in the beating and robbery of a 77-year-old man in St. Paul Tuesday.

Police spokesman Steve Linders says the teenage suspect was identified after a tip left on the department's Facebook page. At this time the young man is not yet in custody.

St. Paul Police posted a video on the page that was captured on a homeowner's surveillance system. It shows the young man approaching the elderly man just before 5 p.m. on thhe 1000 block of Farrington Street as he walked in the driveway talking on his cell phone. As the victim walked up stairs to enter the house the teen grabs the 77-year-old and knocks him to the ground, apparently grabbing the man's wallet before running away. Audio from the surveillance system captures the elderly victim howling in pain.

The assailant was wearing a distinctive bright orange sweat shirt and matching orange sneakers, making police confident they would learn his identity.

At this point it is unclear what charges the suspect will face once he is taken into custody.
