WELCH TOWNSHIP, Minn. - A fatal crash that claimed three lives in southeastern Minnesota Saturday afternoon is just the latest tragic instance to impact the same family.
Stacy Lande of Hager City, Wisconsin and her two grandsons, 5-year-old Taylor Johnson and his 8-year-old brother, Zachary Johnson were killed after the car they were riding in crossed the centerline of a Goodhue County highway and collided head-on with an SUV.
The State Patrol says the driver of the car that crossed the center line, 50-year-old Robert Welch, was airlifted to a hospital in Rochester. The driver of the SUV, Lynn Rapp, had minor injuries and was taken to a Red Wing hospital.
A GoFundMe site set up to benefit the victims says Taylor and Zachary Johnson were the sons of Marya Christensen, who died in 2016 at age 23 after driving her vehicle into the Mississippi River near Red Wing. Stacey Lande was the boys' grandmother.
