Former MN football star now tackling donuts

He used to catch passes from Carson Wentz. Now, Zach Vraa is enjoying the sweeter side of life -- reviewing donuts in his car.

MINNEAPOLIS - He won five national championships as a wide receiver at North Dakota State and was Minnesota's Mr. Football in 2009. These days let's just say life is pretty sweet for Zach Vraa.

"Anything that has the name bakery or donut in it in Minnesota, I've probably been there," Vraa laughs.

His Instagram page (vraamoney_eats) is packed full of the best donuts and burgers he's tracked down in and around the Twin Cities, including weekly donut video reviews. Just him sitting in his car eating donuts.

"I just want to open up people to new shops in Minnesota, let them know the new and up and coming things that are out there," he said.

What exactly is a self-proclaimed donut aficionado looking for when he takes a bite?

"Something that's super light, it's fluffy, it's airy, it's got a great glaze to it, it's not too sweet,” Vraa said.

If you're a donut lover looking to up your donut game, Vraa gives us his top three favorite donuts in Minnesota, in no particular order. Here they are:

- Almond Mounded Joy from Cardigan Donuts

- Fireside from Angel Food Bakery

- Peanut Butter Banana Nutella Bismarck from Mojo Monkey Donuts

Vraa, a guy who caught passes from Carson Wentz in college, is definitely hearing from his former teammates about this dive into the world of donuts.

"They make jokes about me gaining weight in the future and being a lot different from football," he laughs. "I still do workout quite a bit, but the donuts have increased quite a bit, as well."
