Free dental care offered in Twin Cities

For the sixth year, the "Mission of Mercy" will provide access to free dental work for about 2,000 people in Minnesota.

MINNEAPOLIS - For some in our communities, dental insurance and care is a luxury they can't afford.

Enter the Minnesota Mission of Mercy.

For the sixth year, the initiative will provide free dental care to patients in the area who otherwise would not be able to receive any.

About 2,000 people will receive free dental work on Friday, September 7 and Saturday, September 8 at the Minneapolis Convention Center, according to organizers.

1,500 volunteers, including dentists, hygienists and translators will work to provide cleanings, fillings, extractions and other dental services.

If you're a patient interested in getting the free dental care, the doors open at 5:30 a.m. Children under 18 must have a parent or guardian with them.

Work is done on a first-come, first-serve basis, so arrive early if you can!

The Minnesota Dental Association and the Minnesota Dental Foundation organized the event. Delta Dental of Minnesota is also a major contributor, providing a $225,000 grant.

If you'd like to support the cause, text Smile10 or Smile25 to 20222 to make a donation of $10 or $25.
