MINNEAPOLIS — The cause of a fire that left an elderly man dead in a Minneapolis home is under investigation.
Crews from the Minneapolis Fire Department initially responded to a house fire in the 4800 block of 12th Avenue South shortly after noon on Friday.
Upon their arrival, crews found heavy smoke flowing from the first-floor chimney of the house, according to a release from the MFD.
Crews forced entry into the house and conducted a search of the home where they found one man who was declared deceased at the scene.
The fire extended to both floors of the house and through the roof, said the MFD.
The man who died has been identified by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner as 83-year-old Edward Stack of Minneapolis.
