GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. — Brutal videos add to Minneapolis Police Department staffing debate

After the release after surveillance video showing a man being robbed and brutally beaten, Chief Medaria Arradondo explained to the Minneapolis City Council how the 14 officers he and Mayor Jacob Frey are asking for in the budget would be used. The proposal includes 3 additional investigators, 8 neighborhood outreach officers, and 3 in a re-established traffic enforcement unit. The proposal was again met with skepticism by several council members, but business owners are in favor. 

Will banning flavored e-cigarettes actually work?

The growing concerns about vaping led to President Trump and the FDA announcing a move to ban flavored e-cigarettes from stores. A recent survey by the CDC shows around 25% of high school students use e-cigarettes on a regular basis and many experts argue the flavoring is the main reason behind it. It’s a bold move to straight up ban all flavored e-cigarettes from stores, but will it actually work?

Como Zoo's new baby giraffe stands tall

Como Zoo is welcoming a new addition: a baby giraffe! The male baby giraffe was born Sept. 10, weighing in at 160 pounds and standing at six feet, four inches tall, according to a Como Zoo press release. The giraffe's birth become a sensation for Como Zoo's social media pages, after the zoo posted a photo of the calf's hoof starting to emerge. Zookeepers delivered the baby on a special straw bed.
