ST PAUL, Minn. — Officials said that one person has died after a fire in St. Paul on Tuesday.

Firefighters battled the fire on Jan. 23 after it sparked in the 1600 block of Juliet Avenue just after 11 a.m.

Crews found one person inside. Emergency responders on scene treated the person and transported them to the hospital.

On Saturday, the fire department said they were notified that the person had died from injuries sustained in the fire.

No information has been released about the person's name, age or gender.

The fire started in the kitchen, officials said, and investigators have determined it was an accident.

This is the fifth person to die from fire in 2024, officials said.

Deputy Chief Roy Mokosso noted in a press release that cooking is the leading cause of fire in both Minnesota and the United States.
