Man charged with attempted murder in relation to Inver Grove Heights home invasion

A man was charged Monday in relation to a home invasion in Inver Grove Heights.

29-year-old Semaji Jamal Clemons of Inver Grove Heights has been charged with one count of attempted murder in the second degree, one count of burglary in the first degree and assault in the first degree, according to the Dakota County Attorney's Office.

The allegations in the criminal complaint state the following, according to the Dakota County Attorney's Office:

Officers responded to a residence on a report of an assault on July 19 at 3:00 p.m. 

Officers heard a woman crying in a bedroom upon entering the home. Officers saw blood on the floor. As they approached the bedroom, Clemons exited the bedroom.

The woman had several injuries, including puncture wounds, and received medical attention at the scene.

The woman told police that Clemons entered her residence and went into her son's bedroom. He grabbed her son by the neck and brought him into the room she was in.

Clemons assaulted both of them, punching them in the head several times. Her son told police Clemons told them both "you're going to die."

The son ran to a neighbor to get help and returned with a box cutter and tried to use it to get Clemons away from his mother. Clemons took the box cutter and used it to injure the woman. 

Clemons made his first court appearance Monday and bail was set in the amount of $1 million without conditions or $750,000 with conditions.
