MINNEAPOLIS - Community members gathered in North Minneapolis Wednesday to remember a man whose life was taken too soon.
Tyrone Williams, a community activist, was shot and killed at 8th Avenue North and Elwood Avenue North just after 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
Minneapolis Police say a caller reported that a man had been shot. When officers arrived, they found a man on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound. Police say Williams was brought to HCMC, where he died a short time later.
"No mother wants to bury their child, but I know his living was not in vain. He has a legacy that will last for all," Tyrone's mother, Rosemary said to family, friends and supporters on Wednesday afternoon.
"This is very difficult knowing he was an entrepreneur -- he loved his community, he loved children, he loved family, he loved his community," said Pastor Brian Harron.
"Words cannot describe witnessing and watching my brother take the last few breaths of his life. We don't know what happened," said Tyrone's sister, Raeisha. "We don't know why it happened and we don't know who did it, but anyone who has information, please come forward."
Tyrone leaves behind four children. A PayPal account has been set up to assist his children. Funeral arrangements are pending.
Anyone with information about the homicide is asked to call Minneapolis Police at 1-800-222-8477, 612-692-8477 or text their tip to 847411. All tips are anonymous and may be eligible for a reward.
