Spring has sprung! You can enjoy two-sided residential parking again

Both Minneapolis and St. Paul have lifted their winter parking restrictions, just in time for spring.

MINNEAPOLIS — Despite small reminders of winter here and there, Spring has sprung and the curbs are finally starting to show themselves through the ice.

Bob Nasby was one of many people enjoying the beautiful weather on a walk with his dog. He says he's endured 23 winters in St. Paul but even he can't deny this past one was bad.

"It's been a rough winter obviously, parking has been tough and it's been hard on the people that live here you know?" Nasby said.

Nasby still said he sees the value in Winter parking restrictions.

"I mean you couldn't get through the streets here," Nasby said. "It was like driving through an alley."

However, Nasby acknowledged that not everyone may feel the same about the restrictions. The City of St. Paul says during its seven snow emergencies, they've cited 20,189 cars and towed 3,138.

St. Paul police say they cited an additional 3,442 cars during the winter parking restriction period.

As for Minneapolis, they say they cited 34,751 cars total including during the winter restriction. They also towed a total of 6,178 cars. A Minneapolis city spokesperson was quick to add, the numbers are for now -- and may change if we get another April snow storm.

That's exactly Uptown resident Tony Door's nightmare.

"I was very distressed having to wake up at six in the morning to get my car off the snow emergency route off Franklin," Door said. "Driving around half an hour when getting off at 9:30 just to find a spot you can barely squeeze into."

The good news is, it's over. The bad news is, Winter comes back every year. The good news again though, is Door might do something about it this time.

"I chose not to pay my landlord extra for a garage this year," Door said. "I'd say that was not the smartest choice."
