ST. PAUL, Minn. - A St. Paul man has been charged with the stabbing death of his wife.

Dah Eh Ray, 59, was charged Monday with second-degree murder, after his wife was found dead in her home on Saturday.

Investigators arrived at the home on the 1400 block of Payne Avenue at about 10 a.m. on Saturday, on the report of a domestic disturbance. While officers were on scene, the criminal complaint states that Dah Eh Ray walked out of the home with blood on his face, hands, shirt and glasses, apparently under the influence of alcohol.

Officers detained him, and when authorities went inside they found his wife, Dah Dah Ray, deceased on an upstairs bed. According to the complaint, she had 17 stab wounds. There was a note on her chest that was later translated to read "rest in peace," the complaint states. There were also four spots where it appeared someone had tried to start the carpet on fire.

According to the complaint, Dah Dah Ray had previously served Dah Eh Ray with an Order For Protection that was still active, and prohibited him from having any contact with her or going to her home. In the application for the OFP, Dah Dah Ray had said that her husband threatened to kill her many times, and threatened to burn down the house.

Dah Dah Ray's cousin told police that Dah Dah Ray was afraid of her husband, and that he had been staying at the house for a few days despite the OFP. The cousin told police that she saw Dah Eh Ray "usher" his wife upstairs on Saturday morning, and heard him yelling at her. She said he then came downstairs and told her that her cousin was dead.

Dah Eh Ray is charged with second-degree murder with intent, not premeditated; a felony that carries a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison.
