State Patrol: More than 300 crashes across Minnesota on Saturday

The Minnesota State patrol said from midnight to 5 p.m. on Saturday, there were 331 crashes in Minnesota -- 31 of those with injuries.

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - The cold weather led to slippery roads across Minnesota on Saturday.

MnDOT cameras showed several accidents on Saturday, and the State Patrol's Twitter account reported that from midnight to 5 p.m. on Saturday, there were 331 crashes in Minnesota -- 31 of those with injuries. They also said 83 vehicles went off the road or spun out.

The Bloomington Fire Department also warned about black ice on the roads, posting pictures on Twitter of an accident on the Interstate 494 bridge over the Minnesota River.

When it's this cold out, MnDOT says using salt on the roads doesn't work. So crews do three main things: They clear the roads, they use a pre-wetting solution, and they lay down sand.
