MINNEAPOLIS – For 13 years, World Down Syndrome Day has been dedicated to the rights and inclusion of people with Down Syndrome.
“We have the extra chromosome, and we love it,” said Maggie Erickson, a recent graduate of Bethel University’s program for people with Down Syndrome.
Gigi's Playhouse Twin Cities, an achievement center for people with Down Syndrome, based in St. Louis Park, hosted a World Down Syndrome Day party with several hundred people in attendance.
“I have to say from the heart, it really means a lot that everyone is equal, and everyone deserves the proper respect. I see the person instead of the disability itself,” said Shaina Robb, 33, who attends programs and activities at GiGi’s Playhouse with her boyfriend, who also has Down Syndrome.
