Lindsay Whalen's First Game as a Coach

"She's got the local, like Joe Mauer who retired here today, like that local spirit, like everyone in the state can get behind it," a fan said.

A sold out crowd packed Williams Arena to see the Gopher women's basketball team play with Lindsay Whalen on the court -- this time as head coach.

Her career as a player started in 2000 when just over a thousand fans would show up for games.

By her senior year nearly ten thousand were showing up.

“She’s got the local, like Joe Mauer who retired here today, like that local spirit, like everyone in the state can get behind it,” a fan said.

The Gophers picked up the win this game against the New Hampshire Wildcats with a final score of

70 - 47.
