Bold North gear rolling out, billboards rise

The Minneapolis Visitor Information store, located at 5th and Nicollet, launched "Bold North" gear and gifts.

MINNEAPOLIS - Super Bowl 52 is one month away, with the Bold North living up to its name.

The Minneapolis Visitor Information store, located at 5th and Nicollet, launched “Bold North" gear and gifts from Love From Minneapolis, even offering a midday sale to customers stocking up on Bold North gear.

Mary Zimmerman, of Apple Valley, was among them, arming herself with a winter hat and many other items knowing she will need the appropriate gear as a volunteer the Super Bowl Live experience in Nicollet Mall.

“They asked me when I interviewed, are you willing to be out in the cold and I'm like-- that is where I want to be. I want to be in the cold!” said Zimmerman.

That sentiment stretches indoors as more than 150 restaurants and venues across the Twin Cities prepare to entertain visitors with a warm welcome, many closing down to the public to host private events.

Randle's restaurant on Nicollet Mall - named after the legendary Viking John Randle - will transform into what will be known as the Vikings House.

The Vikings organization will rent out the restaurant for nine full days, renovating four levels so the team can offer true northern hospitality.

“It's a window into what's amazing about Minnesota, so for everybody to take advantage of that, show what we are all about here, it's a great opportunity, I'm all for it,” said Bill Baxley, who works downtown near Nicollet Mall.

You soon may see Super Bowl billboards going up all over the Twin Cities, many advertise the Super Bowl Experience, the NFL's live interactive event. Tickets are already on sale.
