MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Call it a beer lover's version of the big game.

HopCat and Surly Brewing Co. are announcing what they say could be the largest single-brewery tap takeover event in the history of the Twin Cities -- a slice of hoppy heaven they call Surly Bowl LII -- with involves a 52-tap takeover at the downtown Minneapolis brew house featuring the largest variety of Surly-made beers ever assembled.

On Sunday, Jan. 28, the doors to HopCat will open at 10:00 a.m., and the first 100 guests will receive a commemorative pint glass from HopCat. They will be able to fill that glass with one of 11 Surly anniversary beers or seven varieties of Darkness. If the special editions aren’t your style, flagship styles (including Furious, Hell and Xtra-Citra) will also be on tap.

“We couldn’t resist the opportunity to create another Sunday the Twin Cities won’t soon forget,” said Sarah Jones, general manager for HopCat. “This event will provide a worldwide showcase for Surly, already one of the most highly regarded craft brewers in America, while shining a light on HopCat and our goal of offering the best local beer selection in town. Game on!”

Heckle the Surly crew for some free merchandise or test their knowledge on the beers that are on tap. The folks at Surly promise they will be ready for anything.

“Teaming up with HopCat to offer 52 Surly beers on tap was not only a kick-ass idea but also a challenge -- two things that fit Surly’s style,” said Cory Just, regional sales manager, Surly Brewing Co. “We’re ready to fill some pint glasses with rare beers and Surly favorites while all eyes are watching our hometown.”

HopCat is located at 435 Nicollet Mall in downtown Minneapolis.
