PYEONGCHANG, South Korea -- For the first time in 20 years, the U.S. women's hockey team has won an Olympic gold medal after beating Canada in a thrilling 3-2 shootout victory.

KARE 11's Dave Schwartz caught up with Minnesota native Hannah Brandt after the big win. She said it still hasn't sunk in just yet.

"It's a great feeling and I'm just happy to be able to do this with 22 of my best friends," Brandt said.

With things tied up at two in the shootout, Jocelyne Lamoureux-Davidson scored an incredible goal, putting the pressure on Canada to score.

"To see Joc make that move that she made, I knew we had it right when she did that," Brandt said.

From there, American goalie Maddie Rooney closed the door on Canada to seal the victory.

For Brandt, the win is special in more ways than one.

"I remember watching back in '98," Brandt explained. "I hope that we can inspire a whole new generation of young girls to be able to do this."
