ST PAUL, Minn. — A man and woman are now facing charges in connection to a St. Paul child being shot inside his home on New Year's Eve.
Prosecutors charged Morris Robert Chie Ryan, 26, of New Hope, and Kelci Meyers, 28, of Hastings, with attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, and drive-by shooting.
According to the criminal complaint, on Dec. 31, officers were called to a home on the 700 block of Sherburne Ave. just before midnight.
They found a 10-year-old boy who had been shot in the stomach and taken to Regions Hospital in critical condition. KARE 11 followed up with St. Paul police about the boy's condition Friday, who said the boy is now out of the hospital and recovering. PIO Sgt. Mike Ernster said it's investigators' understanding that he'll need ongoing treatments for some issues, but overall, is on the mend.
Prosecutors said the boy's mother was in the kitchen while the 10-year-old "was playing with Legos shortly before gunshots came through the kitchen window."
Officers found six spent 9mm Luger casings in the alley behind Sherburne Avenue and 10 bullet holes in the "rear window of the address near the kitchen."
Ryan and Meyers face up to 20 years in prison for attempted second-degree murder, 20 years for first-degree assault, and 10 years for dangerous weapons - drive-by shooting toward an occupied motor vehicle or building charge.
