MINNEAPOLIS — KARE 11 reporter Boyd Huppert is set to receive another prestigious national honor this fall.
The Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) announced that Boyd Huppert will receive its 2023 John F. Hogan Distinguished Service Award. The honor is named for the founder of RTDNA, and recognizes "contributions to the journalism profession and freedom of the press."
“Through his exceptional reporting and storytelling abilities, Boyd has touched the hearts of countless viewers, taking them on emotional and impactful journeys through his captivating narratives,” said RTDNA President and CEO Dan Shelley in a statement.
"We are all so happy for Boyd, as he receives this well-deserved recognition. His incredible talents and his commitment to storytelling are unparalleled in local news," said KARE 11 News Director Stacey Nogy.
After starting his career in Wausau, Omaha and Milwaukee, Boyd has spent the past 27 years at KARE 11, where he produces his weekly signature storytelling segment, “Land of 10,000 Stories.” Boyd also helps inspire the next generation of journalists as the National Storytelling Coach for KARE’s parent company, TEGNA, and also teaches at the Advanced Storytelling Workshop sponsored by the National Press Photographer’s Association.
Boyd's reporting has been recognized with numerous awards over the course of his career, including 148 regional Emmys, a national Emmy, as well as 22 National Edward R. Murrow Awards. The John F. Hogan Award is the second RTDNA honor for Boyd this year; earlier this year, he received a Lifetime Achievement honor from the RTDNA Foundation's First Amendment Awards.
Boyd is also set to be inducted into the Minnesota Broadcaster's Hall of Fame in October.
The John F. Hogan Award will be presented during the RTDNA 2023 conference in Minneapolis in September.
