KARE 11 celebrates 70 years of broadcasting

From the everyday moments to the events that made history, KARE 11 is looking back on seven decades of broadcasting, and the people who made it happen.

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn — For 70 years, KARE 11 has had the privilege of sharing a place in our community.

Ahead of this special anniversary, we took some time to reflect on the people, stories and milestones that led us to this moment in time.

From the everyday moments to the events that made history, both heartbreaking and heartwarming.

On Thursday, Sept. 21, KARE 11 will broadcast an hour-long special beginning at 7 p.m. that looks back at our collective history as a station and a community.

We reached out to some familiar faces to help us commemorate this milestone year, including Paul Magers and Diana Pierce, and took time to celebrate some of our longtime journalists, like Boyd Huppert and John Croman.

Remember where you were when a tornado touched down near Fridley in 1986? Or how you felt when the I-35W bridge collapsed during rush hour traffic in 2007? Or how you felt when the internet age and social media permeated our lives? Through all those moments and more, KARE 11 was there.

Watch our anniversary special live on KARE 11, steaming on KARE 11 Plus and on the KARE 11 app at 7 p.m. CT on Thursday, Sept. 21.
