KARE 11 mourns passing of sports producer Andy Trowbridge

After starting at KARE as a sports intern, Trowbridge went on to produce nightly sportscasts and “Prep Sports Extra.”

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. — KARE 11 is mourning one of our own, after the death of sports producer Andy Trowbridge over the weekend following a brief illness.

Andy Trowbridge graduated from Anoka High School and received his journalism degree at the University of Minnesota. He started as an intern in the KARE 11 sports department nearly 15 years ago, and never left, going on to produce weekend and weeknight sportscasts and the “Vikings Extra” show. Andy also worked closely with Randy Shaver as the producer of “Prep Sports Extra” during the high school football season.

"Andy worked his way to become our sports producer, a job he loved with all his heart," Shaver said in an on-air tribute. "Cool, calm, focused, but would always sneak in that sly grin, even when there was chaos all around him. He relished that role. There wasn't a job too big or too small. He would get it done, and done right. Andy was sweet, kind, thoughtful, funny, the kind of person that could be your life-long friend."

Andy had a huge passion for sports, particularly all of his hometown Minnesota teams, and especially for his alma mater Golden Gophers.

Andy Trowbridge was just 35. He will be deeply missed by all of his friends and colleagues at KARE 11.

In lieu of flowers, Andy’s family is requesting that donations be made to the Randy Shaver Cancer Research & Community Fund.
