MINNEAPOLIS — Pack up your lutefisk and lefse: It's time for Minnesotans with Norwegian heritage to get to SKOL'in' — for real.
"Alt for Norge," a reality television series out of Norway, is casting for its 11th season, and its producers want Americans with Norwegian roots to apply.
With places like St. Olaf, named for the patron saint of Norway, and roadside attractions like Alexandria's 28-foot-tall Big Ole the Viking, there's no better — or more obvious — place to look in the U.S. than in Minnesota.
“Norwegian audiences have been clamoring for familiar, feel-good, positive programming like ‘Alt for Norge’ which showcases family connections and history,” said producer Brita Karlsen in a statement.
The show, which was put on hiatus in 2019 after 10 seasons, follows a group of cast members in Norway as they compete for a $20,000 prize, all the while connecting with their ancestry, and even getting the opportunity to meet long-lost relatives.
"I’d sum up my experience as mind bending and soul healing because it connected me back to my truest roots. I have never felt more connected to my family, heritage, and myself!” said season 10 cast member and Minnesotan Linnea Quarberg.
To be eligible, applicants must have Norwegian ancestry, live in the United States or Canada and be at least 18 years old. Applicants also cannot have traveled to Norway after turning 15. The deadline to apply is Friday, Feb. 2.
If you meet the criteria and are interested in competing, you can either apply online or attend the show's open casting calls on Jan. 24 and Jan. 27 in Chicago and Ballard, Washington, respectively.
