Donut Deluge! A list of your favs in advance of National Donut Day

We asked readers and viewers to share their favorite donut stop, and boy howdy... you came through!

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. — It seems like there's a national day for EVERYTHING - from bubble baths and bikinis to alien abductions and lost socks.

While lots of them are obscure and a bit niche, this Friday brings something just about everyone can celebrate.

Donuts.

Yes, June 7 isn't just Pat Sajak's last day on Wheel of Fortune, it is National Donut Day. As a public service, we asked readers and viewers for their favorite spot to grab a deep fried cake with all the fixin's. And - no surprise - you did not let us down.

Here's an expansive list of donut shops and bakeries worth checking out. You might want to skip work and make a day of it!

Funner Brothers - Golden Valley: Mitzi Murphy Dosher gives a thumbs up both to the donuts and the caramel rolls. "YUM!"

Lau's Czech Bakery - New Prague: KARE Facebook follower Mike Beadle says the donuts are fluffy and light, adding that the kolackys are also awesome.

Bober Tea & Mochi Dough - Eden Prairie, Minneapolis: Joe Daniels said, "The Funnel Cake is my fav! Mochi Dough includes rice flour which makes them uniquely chewy with a pillowy soft inside and perfectly crisp outside. Unique flavors as well."

Yo-Yo Donuts - Minnetonka: Amanda Taylor posted that these donuts are "peanut and tree nut free, plus there are vegan options. And 1000% delicious!"

Heights Bakery - Columbia Heights: The Heights got multiple shout outs on our Facebook page. Carol Moe Russ prefers the simple chocolate covered, while Molly Marie Gordon said a fresh donut of any type from Heights Bakery is incomparable, also noting it has been around for generations.

Sweet Kneads - Farmington: No hyperbole here... Karen Spittell Ogden said donuts from Sweet Kneads are "straight-up SCRUMPTIOUS."

Mel-O-Glaze Bakery - Minneapolis: Mo Ro says her yardstick for greatness is the raised glaze, and insists Mel-O-Glaze serves up the best.

Uffda Donuts - Maple Grove: Jarrod Peterson said they have great service, unique donuts and FLAVOR to spare.

Moon Donuts and Cafe - Buffalo, Monticello: The Moon also got multiple shout-outs, with Danielle Lowell pointing to the blueberry cake as the undisputed best she has ever had.

Luna Donuts - Apple Valley: Christina Kern is all about Luna, but says they're only open until 2 p.m., closing earlier if product sells out. "Yummy and SOOOOO fresh," she wrote.

The Donut Hole - Shakopee: Multiple nods for this donut joint. "Amazing every time," raved Tann Blahnik.

Woman Lake Lodge - between Hackensack and Longville: Chelsea Rostad and Renee Roth-Mark both swear by the lodge's homemade donuts, and say they are definitely worth a stop (or even a road trip).

Nelson Brothers Bakery/Clearwater Travel Plaza - Clearwater: Leslie Stetson Helland said you should not skip the Red Velvet Glazed.

Cold Spring Bakery - Cold Spring: Kayla Paro laid down the gauntlet... "best of all baked goods!"

Blue Egg Bakery - Elk River: Preston Heuer said the conventionals are light and tasty without being too sweet, adding that the filled donuts have lots of filling!

Bloedow Bakery - Winona: Multiple readers gave a nod to Bloedow, with Scott Davis summing their donuts up with a hashtag: #GreatnessDefined. Besides, a couple hour drive along the Mighty Mississippi would work up a powerful appetite.

Editor's note: This is by no means a comprehensive, do-all-end-all guide to Minnesota's best. Check out your options, and lay plans for Friday... when America celebrates the genius of donuts.
