ST PAUL, Minn — Another day, another impressive accolade for an emerging Twin Cities chef.

Myriel head chef and owner Karyn Tomlinson was included in FOOD & WINE'S 2024 list of Best New Chefs in America, landing among culinary artists from Los Angeles to Texas to New York.

Myriel, which opened in St. Paul's Highland Park neighborhood in 2021, features an evolving menu that includes an assortment of fare from small, regional farms. Tomlinson told FOOD & WINE her cooking style can be described as "grandma cooking nouveau," focusing on detail-oriented simplicity.

“It’s not showy,” she told the publication. “But the technique is there to make simple ingredients taste as delicious as possible.”

Tomlinson invites patrons to eat a la carte with selections like stewed lentils and apple pie, or savor her kitchen's tasting menu, which Tomlinson said typically takes "a lot of time and planning and hands-on work.”

According to Myriel's website, Tomlinson learned how to navigate the hospitality industry while studying in France and Sweden.

Myriel is open from Wednesday through Saturday, 5-9 p.m. with a reservation. The restaurant also accepts walk-ins until 9:30 p.m.
