7 “Game of Thrones” Season One Actors: Where Are They Now?

If you’ve been a fan of Game of Thrones from the very beginning, you know there are many characters that have left us -- some explained, some unexplained, some in ways that still get talked about for how totally gross they were -- since the first season premiered in 2011.

If you’ve been a fan of Game of Thrones from the very beginning, you know there are many characters that have left us -- some explained, some unexplained, some in ways that still get talked about for how totally gross they were -- since the first season premiered in 2011.

Before we say goodbye to Game of Thrones forever following the eighth and final season, rewind your mind to season one and see if you recognize these long-forgotten names -- and see where the actors have journeyed since their trip down the King’s Road.

1. Sean Bean as Eddard 'Ned' Stark

Poor Sean Bean is always dying and his role on Game of Thrones was no exception. Eddard “Ned” Stark was beheaded in season one with zero chance of coming back to life. Obviously.

More recently, Bean has been playing John Marlott on The Frankenstein Chronicles, just finished filming Instruments of Darkness as Macbeth and will have a part in the upcoming crime drama The Oath.

2. Mark Addy as Robert Baratheon

Good old King Robert escaped his marriage to Cersei was killed by a boar in season one during a drunken hunting trip. Actor Mark Addy’s run on the series may have been over after that, but according to him, he wasn’t sure anyone would be continuing with the series for very long!

"I feel sorry for the guys going into the show now; there's a huge expectation. For us there was none really," Addy told Digital Spy in 2016. Since then, he most notably had a starring role on the BBC fantasy series Atlantis

3. Harry Lloyd as Viserys Targaryen

It will be hard for any of us to wipe the image of Daenerys pouring liquid metal over Viserys’ head in season one -- mostly because it was one of the most satisfying deaths that has ever happened on the show. What you probably don’t know, though, is that Harry Lloyd, the actor who played the villainous brother, has been busy ever since! He was in The Theory of Everything and stars in the upcoming U.K. film Philophobia opposite his fellow Game of Thrones alum, James Faulkner.

(And if you ask us, Daenerys has been doing pretty well for herself without her brother hanging around.)

4. Susan Brown as Septa Mordane

Septa Mordane was a helper and tutor in the Stark household in season one -- you may remember her complimenting then-little Sansa’s needlework, and later standing off against several Lannister soldiers after ordering Sansa to return to her room for safety.

Following Thrones, actress Susan Brown had a part opposite Meryl Streep in The Iron Lady, as well as on the British crime drama Broadchurch.

5. Jamie Sives as Jory Cassel

You’ll remember Jory Cassel constantly lurking behind Eddard Stark in season one, as he was captain of the Stark household guards. He eventually gets stabbed in the eye by Jaime Lannister after defending Lord Stark against Lannister soldiers.

Since then, Jamie Sives scored a part in Chris Hemsworth’s Moby Dick-inspired filmIn the Heart of the Sea and on the drama series Frontier opposite fellow Thrones alum Jason Momoa.

6. Emun Elliott as Marillion

Emun Elliott had to show off his singing chops during his time on Game of Thrones, as he held the role of Marillion, the troubadour of the Seven Kingdoms. Unfortunately for him (though not surprising), King Joffrey got mad at him and had his tongue cut out.

Elliott has had some high-profile roles since then, including parts in Prometheus and 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

7. Miltos Yerolemou as Syrio Forel

Arya Stark has done plenty of training and learning during the past seven seasons of Game of Thrones, but it all began with her training from master sword fighter Syrio Forel. Forel trains Arya how to use a sword Braavosi style, which is excellent foreshadowing to the time she spends in Braavos in season five.

Miltos Yerolemou is yet another Thrones alum who went on to the Star Wars franchise! Yerolemou had a small part in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and also appears in Murder on the Orient Express.
