Tris is heading for TV! After the third Divergent film, Allegiant, earned only $66 million at the box office, Lionsgate has decided to try a new approach for the franchise's final film, Ascendant.

Variety reports that the conclusion to the YA novel adaptation series will be released as a TV movie. The production company is also looking into a spin-off TV series, a source tells the entertainment site.

The source says the spin-off TV series would be set in the same post-apocalyptic world. The films have diverged (pun intended) from the storylines in the books so there is no guarantee that leading lady Tris (Shailene Woodley) will meet the same end that she does in the best-selling novels. Woodley got her start in TV as the star of The Secret Life of the American Teenager.

Regardless of where the original characters end up, Lionsgate is reportedly planning to introduce a new cast for the TV series. It is not clear if any of the original cast, which includes Woodley, Theo James, Ansel Elgort, Miles Teller, and Zoe Kravitz will be involved in the series.

The franchise's first two films, Divergent and Insurgent, brought in $150 million and $130 million respectively, but when Allegiant was released in March it grossed less than half of the other two films.

Lionsgate declined ET's request for comment.
