Rory Feek Reveals Daughter Indiana 'Has Not Asked For Her Mama' Yet: She 'Doesn't Quite Understand

Easter was late country singer Joey Feek's favorite holiday, and to honor the occasion, her husband, Rory Feek, shared a tribute to his longtime love.

The musician got nostalgic remembering the Easter holidays they used to share as a family and opened up about how wonderful it would have been for Joey to spend this Easter with the couple's 2-year-old daughter, Indiana.

"I can't help but think of my bride today," Rory wrote in a blog post on Sunday. "To remember all the Easter's we've spent together over the years and what this morning would be like if she were still here with us. What it would mean to her to share Easter this year with our two-year-old. It would be so, so special."

Joey died from stage 4 cancer earlier this month after being placed in hospice care in October. Rory stayed by her side throughout their final months together, documenting her battle on the couple's blog.

Despite all the time they spent as a family, Rory revealed that Indiana has not yet asked for her mom since she died.

"Indy doesn't quite understand what has happened. Why her papa is sad. Why friends hug us so tightly, and why tears fall from strangers' eyes when they say hello to us. But she will," Rory wrote. "She may not realize right now how incredible her mama is, but she will."

According to the 50-year-old singer, Joey made a concerted effort to distance Indy from herself and bond her closer to her father, so that her death wouldn't have such a devastating impact on their child. She would have Rory play with her more frequently and hold her so that they would become inseparable.

"Who does that? Who has that kind of strength and character? Not me, that's for sure. I would've taken the low, easy road… the one that served me more. I would've tried to make the ties with our baby stronger and her love for me deeper so that she wouldn't forget me… and in the end, probably left our baby wrecked with grief over the loss of the one person she loved and needed most," Rory shared. "But not Joey. She let Indy fall more in love with me…and less in love with her. She carried the pain on her own shoulders, to try to keep it off of mine."

"Thank you Joey," he added.

He also revealed that he and Indy visit Joey at the cemetery every day. "I talk with my bride about what has happened that day, and what I'm worried or excited about… and I share the latest thing that Indiana is doing," Rory explained. "And for a little bit, we're a family again."
