Sinead O'Connor is taking back what she said.
The 50-year-old singer apologized this week for past Facebook posts she made apparently implicating Arsenio Hall in supplying late music icon Prince with drugs over the years. The "Purple Rain" singer died at age 57 of a fetanyl overdose in April 2016.
"I apologize for my Facebook posts about Arsenio to the extent that anyone thought I was accusing him of acting as Prince's drug dealer and supplying him with illegal hard drugs, or insinuating that Arsenio had something to do with Prince's death," the Irish songwriter said to TMZ. "I sincerely apologize because those statements would be false, and I retract them unequivocally."
In response to O'Connor's comments, Hall filed a $5 million defamation lawsuit against the singer last May, calling the statements "defamatory lies" in court documents obtained by ET.
"Desperate, attention-seeker Sinead O'Connor has maliciously published outlandish defamatory lies about comedian Arsenio Hall, falsely accusing him of supplying illegal 'hard drugs' 'over the decades' to the recently deceased musical artist, Prince, and of spiking her with drugs once years ago," Hall's legal team wrote, maintaining that O'Connor's claims were "despicable, fabricated lies."
