GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. -- Dating expert Stephanie Kluver from "It's Just Lunch" talks about Valentine's Day tips and myths on KARE Saturday.
Kluver helps to debunk some Valentine's Day myths regarding the romantic holiday:
1. It's okay to skip the day entirely. Even though Valentine's Day is so hyped up, it's important to make sure your significant other feels special during the Valentine's Day buzz. You don't have to overdo it but make sure to do something that shows you care.
2. You don't have to celebrate. We encourage you to do something to celebrate but who says it has to be on February 14th? That's so overdone. Pick a day and customize your Valentine's Day so that it makes sense for your relationship.
3. Always do a fancy dinner. While almost 50% of women would like to go out to dinner at a nice restaurant on Valentine's Day, the busy PDA filled restaurants may be more stressful than romantic. Try a special dinner at home or a wine night – something that gives you the opportunity to spend some quality time together.
4. We have to exchange gifts. It is not mandatory that you exchange gifts on Valentine's Day, especially if you are in a new relationship. Just make sure to discuss it before so there are no surprises. Sometimes the best gift for a new relationship is spending time together and doing something simple such as staying in and cooking dinner.
5. Single should stay in. Wrong! Get out there and have some fun. In fact, more than 50% of people out that night are single. You never know who you may meet unless you put yourself out there. And if you don't feel like mingling with the love birds, do something special for yourself that day such as a massage or manicure.
