Heat stifles fairgoers as Saturday attendance declines

After an astonishing turnout at the fair Thursday and Friday, the attendance is slowing down to its usual pace.

FALCON HEIGHTS, Minn. — Did you eat a corn dog at the Great Minnesota Get Together this weekend?

If so, you probably encountered large crowds and long lines, as is standard for the well-loved event. But how many people really were attending?

The Minnesota State Fair reported 184,564 people walking through the gates Saturday, which fell short of the record set in 2018 by nearly 40,000 people.

But don't be disappointed that Saturday didn't set a record, as both Thursday and Friday did.

Day 1 - Thursday - drew 138,875 people, which was 5,000 more than the previous record set in 2019. Day 2 drew 171,233, which neared a 5,000 advantage over the previous record number as well.

If you're planning to visit the fairgrounds, make sure you bring sunscreen and a reusable water bottle.
