Minnesota Historical Society introduces new ways to learn about old stuff

Starting May 2 and continuing through 2024, visitors receive free admission to the Minnesota History Center in St. Paul every Thursday night between 4-8 p.m.

ST PAUL, Minn. — "A generation which ignores history has no past and no future."

That quote by Robert A. Heinlein underlines the importance of organizations like the Minnesota Historical Society, which strives to preserve the state's eventful past, share important stories and connect people with history in meaningful ways.

To remove barriers to connecting the present and the past, MNHS is rolling out a number of programs and initiatives to open up historic sites to Minnesotans at no cost.

Starting May 2 and continuing throughout 2024, visitors will receive free admission to the Minnesota History Center in St. Paul each Thursday night from 4-8 p.m. During those no-charge nights visitors can experience a rotating collection of exhibits including "Our Home: Native Minnesota," "Minnesota's Greatest Generation," "Weather Permitting" and "The Life and Art of Charles M. Schultz. "

More information on free Thursdays can be found on the MNHS website.

Also in 2024-25, MNHS will hold free admission days system-wide one day for each of Minnesota's four seasons. Those days are:

  • June 22, 2024
  • Sept. 21, 2024
  • Jan. 11, 2025
  • April 26, 2025

Visitors can stop in at any of MNHS's 26 sites statewide for free and learn about the place they call home.
