Twin Cities Cinephiles: New releases hitting theaters April 26, 2024

A tennis prodigy, a musical family and a campaign of vengeance highlight this weekend's cinematic releases.

MINNEAPOLIS — We had an entire intro ready for this week’s releases but scrapped it when we realized that we should just be saying congratulations to all of us Twin Cities movie lovers.

We weren’t supposed to wait so long, but thanks to the strike, we had to wait 524 days without a new Luca Guadagnino film.

However, the day has finally arrived for “Challengers” to hit the silver screen after its postponed Venice Film Festival World Premiere.

“Challengers” (R)

Tennis prodigy turn coach Tashi is married to tennis champion Art. When Art finds himself on a losing streak he and Tashi plot his comeback. His comeback is made a bit more complicated when he is set to face Patrick, his former best friend and Tashi’s former boyfriend.

“Challengers” is the eighth feature film from director Luca Guadagnino. The film was written by Justin Kuritzkes and stars Zendaya, Mike Faist (Broadway’s “Dear Evan Hansen,” “Bikeriders”) and Josh O’Connor (“The Crown,” “La Chimera).
