The following is an op-ed by Breaking the News anchor Jana Shortal.
Addiction can come to any of us, even on one of the biggest nights of our lives.
That seems to be the case for Ingrid Andress.
Performing before the MLB All-Star Home Run Derby Monday, she swung and missed on her rendition of the national anthem.
And the reaction was cruel and predictable. But what next to no one thought before they tweeted or Tik-Tokked, was Ingrid was singing but she wasn't really there.
She was drunk.
She has a problem with drinking. And on Tuesday she apologized, saying she was checking into rehab.
She didn't clap back at the online abuse, she decided to quit abusing herself.
We could learn a lot about that kind of courage, in the face of such a lack of empathy.
Get well Ingrid, that's all that matters.
The songs and stages can wait.
