LONDON - His manager confirms that legendary singer Joe Cocker has died after a long illness.

The gravel-voiced soul singer was 70.

Cocker, originally from Sheffield, had a career lasting more than 40 years with hits including his cover of the Beatle's With A Little Help From My Friends, You Are So Beautiful and Up Where We Belong.

The BBC reports that his agent Barrie Marshall confirms the death, saying that Cocker was "simply unique" and "it will be impossible to fill the space he leaves in our hearts." While Marshall would not confirm the official cause of death, multiple reports say Cocker had been battling lung cancer.
