Weezer tour headed for St. Paul to celebrate 30th anniversary of landmark album

The alt rock-power pop band will visit Xcel Energy Center on September 4, and play their entire self-titled debut album "Weezer," also known as "The Blue Album."

ST PAUL, Minn. — Weezer is about to embark on a North American tour to celebrate a defining moment in the band's history, a junket that will bring the Southern California alt-rock/power pop heroes to Xcel Energy Center on Sept. 4. 

The "Voyage to the Blue Planet" tour will launch in St. Paul on the 30th anniversary of Weezer's self-titled debut, an album known by diehards as "The Blue Album." The band will play the album in its entirety including hits like "Buddy Holly," "Say It Ain't So" and "Undone-The Sweater Song."

The Flaming Lips and Dinosaur Jr. will handle opening duties. 

General admission tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. this Friday, March 15, via the Weezer website. There are also presale opportunities which start on Wednesday, March 13. 

Weezer was formed in Los Angeles in 1992 and in the years since has sold more than 35 million records worldwide. Led by lead singer and guitarist Rivers Cuomo,  Weezer has won Grammys and countless MTV Video Music Awards, among other honors.
