'MVP, The Jackie Robinson Story' comes to life in new play

The show runs through Feb. 18 through a youth theater company in Minneapolis.

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - The African-American man who broke baseball’s color barrier is the focus of a new play.

"MVP, the Jackie Robinson Story" runs from Feb. 2 to 18 at the Howard Conn Performing Arts Center in Minneapolis.

Show director, Mitchel Frazier, says youth who have not heard Robinson’s story will see parallels between his life and many current situations in society and sports.

Frazier appeared on KARE 11 along with actor Andre Allen, who portrays the baseball legend.

Frazier and Allen say the production will both entertain and enlighten audiences.

The show, which coincides with Black History Month, is put on by the Youth Performance Company (YPC), an Ivey Award-winning youth theater company, now celebrating their 28th season of youth-inspired theater in the Twin Cities.

Tickets cost $7 to $15. For show times, call 612-623-9080. For more information, click here.
