Twin Cities Film Festival to honor Terrence Howard, lift up local talent

TCFF uses the power of cinema to showcase diverse filmmakers, characters, and points of view.

The Twin Cities Film Festival (TCFF) continues to dazzle cinema enthusiasts and provide a welcome space to enjoy film talent in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area. 2023 marks the 14th year of the festival, with a focus on representation and inclusion.

TCFF is providing a space for more than 140 movies, independent features, short films and provocative documentaries through streaming and the ICON theatre in St. Louis Park through October 28. The festival's goal is to change perspectives, transform lives, and strengthen communities by supporting and spurring on the art of filmmaking.

Oscar nominee Terrence Howard will be the recipient of TCFF's Indie Vision Legacy Award and will show his new film "Showdown at the Grand" on Friday, October 27, then appear at a special “In Conversation” spotlight event on Saturday, Oct. 28.

TCFF's  “Changemaker Series” will spotlight projects addressing healthcare disparities in America. Dr. Yen Yang of Health Partners will be awarded the 2023 Changemaker Award for her dedication to closing healthcare disparity gaps, and teaching colleagues how to recognize and reduce unconscious or implicit bias.

‘Downtown Owl,’ which was partially partially filmed in St. Paul, has been named the official closing night selection.

More than 50 films will simultaneously debut on the TCFF STREAMS platform at twincitiesfilmfest.org.
