Ms. Wheelchair Minnesota aims for national title

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - Motivated. Determined. Passionate. These three words describe Jen Onsum, Ms. Wheelchair Minnesota USA 2014, who will compete for the title of Ms. Wheelchair USA July 15-19 in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.

Jen joined KARE 11 News @ 4 with the details.

A 33-year-old from Brooklyn Park, Jen is the youngest of three and loves living an active lifestyle despite having Spinal Muscular Atrophy.

Diagnosed at 18 months of age, Jen has been active in sports, education, employment and volunteering much of her life. Throughout high school she earned her varsity letter playing Adapted Soccer, Floor Hockey and Softball, and has been a feisty, but girlie, PowerHockey player for 18 years and the Assistant Commissioner of the Minnesota PowerHockey League for two years.

Jen has a Bachelors of Arts in Journalism from the University of St. Thomas and currently divides her time between being a motivational speaker and working in social media marketing.

Jen's platform is "Keeping Your Attitude Active," something she is very passionate about. Having been very active her whole life, Jen is a firm believer in getting out and finding something to do or be involved in, because it will help you to have a healthy attitude and attitude is everything, no matter what your life situation may be.

Minnesotans can vote for Jen in the People's Choice Award competition now through Intermission on July 19. Votes can be casted by making a $5 donation online to The Dane Foundation to benefit Project Elf, a holiday gifting program for families with disabilities.
