Holidays put importance of food safety in the spotlight

U of M food safety expert Amy Johnston visited KARE 11 Saturday to talk about preparing, transporting and storing food so family and friends don't get sick.

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. — The holiday season brings with it a landslide of family meals, parties and potlucks - enough food to stuff you like the turkey many will enjoy on Thanksgiving.

But along with all that food... comes increased food safety issues and chances of getting sick.

U of M Extension Education and food safety expert Amy Johnston visited KARE 11 Saturday to discuss proper food preparation, cooking, transporting and storage to decrease the chances someone will contract a food-borne illness from something you made.

Among the most common holiday food issues are undercooking things like a turkey, and not keeping hot food hot and cold food cold when taking it from point A to point B and serving.
