MINNETONKA, Minn. — For many, one of the biggest highlights each holiday season is that one-of-a-kind dish we know that a special friend or family member will be bringing to the table.
For one Twin Cities chef, cherished holiday recipes live on in a way you might not expect — by giving them a remix paying tribute to his family.
Executive Chef Ryan Dodge of the Tavern Grill joined KARE 11 Saturday to show us his Olive Cream Cheese Burger, created in honor of a favorite holiday recipe from his own family.
Chef Dodge's Olive Cream Cheese Burger From the Tavern Grill
Inspired by Aunt Linda's signature cream cheese dip for the holidays
(Recipe yields 4 burgers)
Burgers:
2 lbs. ground beef
4 hamburger buns
Your family's favorite burger seasoning
4 oz. green olives (for topping)
Olive Cream Cheese Burger Sauce:
8 oz. softened cream cheese
Half-cup green olives (pitted)
2 tbsp. capers
1 tsp. black ground pepper
1 clove minced garlic
Directions:
Prepare the Olive Cream Cheese Burger Sauce by finely chopping the green olives and capers and mincing the garlic. Fold the ingredients together with the softened cream cheese, then set aside. Refrigerate if prepping ahead of time.
Form the ground beef into 4-inch-diameter patties and season with your family's favorite burger seasoning.
Place burgers in the pan over medium heat and sear on both sides for 4 minutes (or until preferred doneness).
While the meat is resting, begin to prepare the buns. Set your oven to broil, then butter the inside tops and bottoms of each bun. Place butter-side up on a sheet pan, then set inside the oven for 1 to 2 minutes, or until toasted to your liking.
Assemble by placing burger patties on buns, adding a generous amount of the Olive Cream Cheese Burger Sauce, and garnishing with extra sliced green olives, just for good measure.
