Target headquarters employees to continue remote work through June 2021

The retail giant said a small number of team members will continue to work from the corporate offices.

MINNEAPOLIS — Target has informed employees at its corporate headquarters that many of them will continue to work remotely until next summer.

In an email to Target HQ team members on Thursday, Chief Human Resources Officer Melissa Kremer said virtual work would continue through June 2021, with a small number of necessary team members continuing to work from headquarters. Target will be taking a gradual approach to bringing corporate employees back to its offices.

Kremer's message also hinted that a hybrid model of remote and office work is likely to be part of Target's long-term future,

"Like many others, we’re taking this time to reimagine the future role of the office and where and how work gets done," Kremer wrote. "As we look to the future, our headquarters environment will include a hybrid model of remote and on-site work. This will allow for the flexibility many of you have come to value, while also providing opportunity for the in-person connection and collaboration that’s central to our team and culture. Our intent is to blend the best of both work environments."

According to its website, Target employs more than 10,000 team members at its corporate offices in downtown Minneapolis.

Target corporate workers aren't alone in continuing remote work through 2021; Google made a similar announcement for its workers in July.
