Gas prices continue late-year plunge

Fuel-finding app GasBuddy said Twin Cities motorists are paying an average of $3.12 per gallon for unleaded, down 9.1 cents from last week.

MINNEAPOLIS — Minnesota motorists should have a few more buckaroos to spend on holiday gifts, thanks to the continuing decline in prices at the gas pump.

Fuel-locator app GasBuddy says a gallon of unleaded at stations across the Twin Cities averages $3.12 as of Monday morning, down 9.1 cents from a week ago and more than 28 cents lower than the same day last month.

The prices are determined by GasBuddy's regular survey of 1,106 stations across the Twin Cities.

Across the entire state of Minnesota gas averages $3.06.

"With the national average price of gasoline declining for the 10th straight week, motorists are enjoying the longest downward trend at the pump since the summer of 2022," said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. "In addition, gasoline demand continues to be dragged lower as Americans stay inside more often, helping to put continued downward pressure on gasoline prices."

De Haan cautioned that analysts will be carefully monitoring OPEC's delayed meeting, set to occur this week, for potential oil production cuts or other surprises that could eventually mean an end to lower gas prices.

Nationally, GasBuddy's survey says unleaded is selling for an average of $3.21, down 26 cents from a month ago.

In neighboring Wisconsin petrol is even lower, priced at $2.93 while in Sioux Falls, S.D. a gallon will run you $3.00 even.
