November marked a banner month for adding jobs in Minnesota, according to the Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED), fueling an economy that continues to grow.

DEED says the state added 9,500 jobs last month, the largest increase since January and significantly higher than the national rate. Jobs grew .3% on a seasonally adjusted basis, compared to .1% nationally. The new positions pushed Minnesota's unemployment rate down a tenth of a percentage point to 3.1 as of November.

“Minnesota continues to see sustained and notable job growth and we’re consistently adding jobs at a faster rate than the national average, which is phenomenal news for workers,” said DEED Commissioner Matt Varilek in a released statement. “We are confident that current and soon-to-be-launched efforts by DEED and our workforce development partners to connect people with employment and to help connect employers with often overlooked labor pools will bring more people into the labor force in 2024.”

Here are some of the sectors where jobs were added:

  • Trade, Transportation & Utilities, up 3,300 jobs
  • Education & Health Services, up 2,700 jobs
  • Government, up 1,100 jobs
  • Manufacturing, up 1,000 jobs

On another front, DEED says Minnesota's average hourly wage is now $36.29, an increase of 3.4% since January. The national hourly wage is $33.99.
