MINNEAPOLIS — At a time when social issues are commanding our attention, one local financial advisor is urging everyone to make sure their money – or more specifically, their investments – matches their positions on the issues of the day.
Shannon Foreman talked with KARE 11’s Karla Hult about how people can review their investments to ensure they align with their values.
“401(k)s and foundations and community and family trusts are some of the biggest assets across the globe. So we’ve got to be able to start these conversations to be able to create these changes. If we don’t understand where our money is going, then we’re not understanding that we’re actually continuing to fund some of these issues that we might actually be against,” Foreman said.
Among Foreman’s recommended resources – or tools – to help track your investments:
As You Sow (nonprofit resource): a site that gives you the ability to review exactly where (and in which companies) your money may be invested.
USSIF – The Forum for Sustainable & Responsible Investment: a site that guides people toward financial advisors who are committed to sustainable investments.
Foreman has also dedicated several podcast episodes to the topic of sustainable investing. And for more information on her company – and those podcasts – just go to: Forethought Planning – Thrive For[e}ward Blog & Podcast. (Episodes 62 to 65, October 2021, as well as Episodes 8, 16, and 90 all feature pieces on sustainable investing).
