MINNEAPOLIS — It's that time of year again, folks: Property tax refund time.
If you qualified for a property tax refund on your 2023 tax filings, the Minnesota Department of Revenue's website has all of the information you'll need to track it down if the refund hasn't yet hit your bank account.
To qualify, candidates need:
- A valid Social Security number
- To be a Minnesota resident or have spent at least 183 days in the state
- Has lived in and paid rent on a Minnesota building where the owner was assessed property tax or made payments in lieu of property tax
- Has made less than $73,270 per household in 2023
- Not claimed as a dependent on someone else's tax return.
If those qualifications were met, Minnesotans can use the Revenue Department's "Where's My Refund?" service if they've filed a return within the last 12 months for 2020 or later.
When searching for your refund, officials say to use the same information — i.e. Social Security number, date of birth, exact refund amount — used with their 2023 filings.
Both homeowners and renters are eligible to claim a refund.
If you're still unsure about the status of your return, call the MN Dept. of Revenue at 651-556-3009 or 1-844-406-7276 (toll-free).
