A guide to the Vikings training camp

Here's a playbook for rookie fans looking to visit the Vikings training camp, starting July 26.

EAGAN, Minn. — The Vikings have made a few changes to their training camp in Eagan this year. Here's a playbook for anyone hoping to attend the 16 public practices that begin Friday.

1. No tickets available? Keep checking

"The most important thing is just to remember to reserve your tickets in advance," said Vikings spokesperson Jeff Anderson.

Each fan can go online and reserve up to four free tickets for up to two days of camp. There are only 4,000 free tickets available each day, but even though some dates are already full, don't lose hope.

"We know that there is going to be some no-shows," Anderson said. "Last year we saw about 40 percent no-show rate, so we likely will continue to open up tickets throughout camp and adjust based on what numbers we're seeing in the stands. Just continue to check online. Obviously (fans) can call our ticket office and ask if there is any availability."

2. Autographs are kids only

One of the biggest changes this year is how the Vikings are handling player autographs. They'll only be available to fans 18 and under. The lines to get them will open at 4:15 p.m., but you don't need to wait all day. The first 150 people in each line will get a wrist band. Once you have that, just return later for autographs.

"We have 90 players signing 150 autographs each," Anderson said. "That's 13,000 kids that get a chance to meet their favorite player."

3. Watch for the Helmet Hike

Each day, a lucky group of kids will take part in the new Helmet Hike. Kids will be selected to carry a player's helmet from the locker room to the practice fields. They'll then have a chance to take a photo with the player.

"We're actually going to randomly select children as we see them out here at camp, so we're going to surprise kids," Anderson said.

4. Chill out with videogames

The Vikings Arcade will be a cool place for fans who need a break from the heat. The room features Xbox One consoles, vintage arcade games, and even a giant Scrabble board. The space also has food and beverages for fans who prefer to remain on the sidelines.
