A 16-year-old was bitten by a black bear near Ely while jogging, prompting the Department of Natural Resources to issue a warning.
The teen was bitten Monday afternoon and was treated at a hospital for minor injuries.
Later that evening, a conservation officer killed a bear at a garbage bin near the location of the biting incident. Authorities said the bear showed no fear of people.
Officers believe that was the same bear that bit the jogger.
The DNR shared the following information about bears:
-The fact that a bear charged a jogger from behind indicates its habituation to humans, which is not normal behavior for a bear.
-Bears become used to people when they are fed close to where people live.
-Other unwary def bears have been reported in the area. Do not approach them.
-If a bear approaches you, speak loudly and act aggressive towards it. Do not run.
-Do not feed bears.
