Blaine, Coon Rapids police keep fallen officer's promise

A day after they lost a colleague to a motorcycle crash, police officers showed up at a graduation party to make sure Steve Nanney's promise wasn't broken.

BLAINE, Minn. - Just a day after a Blaine police officer was killed, his fellow officers are following through on one of his promises.

Officers from Blaine and Coon Rapids showed up at a graduation party on Saturday for a Blaine High School student who was being mentored by Officer Steve Nanney.

Steve and his wife, Susie, were killed in a motorcycle crash on Friday night.

Sharon Kinney, who shared video from the grad party with KARE 11, said that Officer Platz from Coon Rapids PD gathered everyone together to follow through on Nanney's commitment.

Kinney said Nanney was mentoring the student, who is now headed to school to become a police officer.

Steve Nanney was with the Blaine Police Department for 10 years, the past three as the school resource officer at Blaine High School. His wife, Susie, was an associate professor at the U of M.
